custom swimming pool

A pool is a great addition to anyone’s backyard. They’re wonderful for exercise or for just lounging around. Before you get started building your new pool, though, there are two important questions that you need to ask: how much will the pool cost, and how long will it take for pool contractors in Orange County to build?

How much will it cost?

The first thing to consider is the type of pool you want to build. Above-ground pools are much less labor-intensive and require fewer materials, so naturally, they are a less expensive option, ranging from around $1,000 for a smaller pool up to $15,000 or so. Inground pools, on the other hand, typically start at around $30,000 and will be even more costly if you opt for a custom design or want outdoor landscaping to go with the pool.

Another thing that can factor into the cost is the material a pool is made from. Concrete is the most expensive option because it is the most durable and versatile of the materials, allowing for custom shapes and the addition of ceramic tiles, while things like fiberglass and vinyl are less expensive but also have less longevity and flexibility for custom designs.

Finally, the type of water that you want to fill your pool with can also impact the cost to a degree. Saltwater pools are becoming more and more popular these days because they are easier to maintain and less harmful than traditional chlorine pools.

In the long run, a saltwater pool is typically less expensive than a traditional chlorine one, but it does cost more to install upfront and uses more electricity, which will drive up your monthly bill. When going in to discuss rates with your Orange County pool builder, make sure to ask questions about the pros and cons of all the different options, as well as their price.

How long will it take to build?

Once construction has actually started, it will typically take six to eight weeks for pool contractors in Orange County to build the pool. However, there are a lot of steps that need to be completed before construction can start, including initial consultations about the design and layout of the pool and obtaining the proper permits.

That beginning stage, designing the pool, will vary in length depending on the complexity of your desired design, but you can typically expect to finalize the design in one to three weeks. Then, once the design has been finalized, it’s time to apply for permits. Unfortunately, this process is completely out of you or your contractor’s hands. Depending on the area where you live, this could take anywhere from a week to two months. Once that’s finally done, however, the construction can begin.

The six-to-eight-week timeframe we gave above is just an estimate. It could be faster or slower, depending on what kinds of obstacles the contractors run into. In general, though, about a month and a half to two months later, you’ll have a brand new pool ready to be enjoyed!
